This beautiful minimalistic blue and yellow toned wedding was featured In The Wedding Chicks as well as Chic Vintage Brides. We had an amazing team of vendors create a beautiful fine art styled wedding inspired by the clean, mainstream mid century modern style.

There’s nothing more telling and reassuring than testimony from past clients. Reading about past clients’ experiences with the Makeup and Hair Stylist can be just the thing you need to solidify your decision. Brides who’ve worked directly with Stylists can give a great idea of what they went through and some of the things you may be wondering as a client. Ask the Stylists you are interested to direct you to any review links to read first hand accounts of what it’s like to work with the Stylist, it can be the most beneficial tool to narrowing down your decision.

Portfolio

This is one requirement that will distinguish who is a real professional: the portfolio. When looking for Makeup and Hair stylists, their portfolio to should have a diverse range of skin tones, ages, eye shapes, and clients and most importantly photos of clients that look similar to you. Although we all know doing makeup on ourselves is a skill in itself, portfolios full of selfies should be a red flag. As a Makeup Artist who has worked on hundreds of faces, doing makeup on ourselves is an entirely different skill set as working on others’ faces. No two faces are alike, yet a good Makeup Artist knows how to work on any and every face and feature. At the same time, it is important to see clients that have similar features like eye shape (i.e. monolids, deep set eyes) and skin tones (golden, olive, pink undertones) to put you at ease before you make your decision.

Aesthetic

With a service like makeup and hair, finding someone with the right aesthetic and style is extremely important. When looking through a Stylist’s photos ask yourself if that is what you would want to look like on your wedding day. Are you comfortable with the amount of shadow or foundation you see the Artist’s clients with or is the hair soft and romantic or slicked back and classic? If you’re a working professional who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup and prefers a more natural look, find a makeup artist whose work reflects a more natural and soft style. This will save you a lot of time and effort if you choose an Artist who not only creates a style that you like, but also wants to talk and collaborate to ensure they understand what your vision is for your wedding day.

Professional Business Practices

In the era of social media, everything from makeup artists to photographers are a dime a dozen. People can now pick up a makeup brush or camera and slap professional “enter profession here” on an Instagram. It’s very easy to create a page with just pretty, filtered photos of work, but how do you really get to know the business and if they are true professionals, what kind of services they offer or if they’re even a good fit? Every legitimate business should have a website with a portfolio, services, and at least a short description about their business. A website will ensure the person or business you’re interested in has taken the time and effort to show that they are in fact a real, professional business.
Like every other vendor, Makeup and Hair stylists should offer all clients a legal contract, the proper licensing if required, and liability insurance upon securing them to work with you. This may be one of the most important things as you will rest assure you are working with a professional who takes their job with the utmost seriousness. Not only do these things protect the Stylist, but they also protect you the Client from any injury, damage that is the fault of the Stylist. A professional Makeup Artist should always work before the wedding with your other vendors to coordinate the proper timing to ensure they are completing their work on time for your to move into the next part of your day. A good Makeup and Hair Stylist should help you to start your wedding day off so you feel relaxed and refreshed for the day ahead. Always ask any vendor you are considering if these practices are implemented as it could save a lot of trouble and headache and allow you to focus on what’s important; enjoying your wedding day.

Sanitary and Professional Products/kit

A professional Makeup and Hair Stylist should understands just how the importance of sanitation. Aside from artistry, having a sanitary, clean kit is crucial to determining whether you are working with a true professional. Makeup and hair Stylists should have 95% professional grade products in their kit as well as a large kit of disposable mascara, spatulas, and lip wands to avoid directly dipping into product. A big tip to be aware of is if you see artists double dipping into mascara, lip products and applying them, do not be afraid to say something as this can unsanitary practice can lead to infections and the spread of bacteria.
Also be weary of “Instagram” brands which go unregulated as their manufacturers are in China. Although these are currently popular brands, it may made from cheap materials and ingredients. Always ask your Makeup and Hair stylist what kind of products they use on their clients before booking.

We hope this list is helpful in your search for your Wedding Makeup and Hair Artist. We understand there are an endless number of choices out there and we want to help guide you through to refine your choices to find the right Stylist for you. Is there something we missed? What other factors do you think go into finding the right Makeup and Hair Artist? We want to hear your thoughts.

Classic and Traditional Napa Wedding

When we first met with Nicole, we knew her wedding was going to be the epitome of a classically beautiful event with little touches of tradition, and personality. This pediatrician was one of the sweetest, down to earth brides we’ve ever met and just knew that her overall look was going to take her groom’s breath away. A vintage-inspired Hollywood wave and glowing, enhanced makeup would perfectly pull her entire look together and once we saw the complete look, we were not disappointed.

Nicole and Brad took their wedding as the perfect opportunity to honor their families and traditions, while creating a new one for just the two of them. What was really special was Nicole’s dress was designed by her grandmother, who is a dress designer in San Francisco. The beautiful blush gown had several pieces that were detachable to reveal a new outfit for each segment of the night. Along with her bridesmaids’ wine colored dresses, it made for a perfect color palette for a autumn wedding.

We are truly so blessed to have such intelligent, sophisticated, kind clients who not only have are extremely beautiful, but they are just the nicest people I could ask to work with. Brides like Nicole are why we get up in the morning. Women like her truly inspire us to create beauty that reflects who they are and that they will look at in 20 years and reminisce on how beautiful they looked and felt. Thank you so much Nicole, we wish you all the love and best wishes on your marriage.

It’s Been Great, 2018.

I can’t believe another year has come and gone and I have so much to be grateful for. I still pinch myself sometimes when I reflect on the fact that I’m able to do what I love and get paid for my time. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of to be a Makeup Artist I’m so thankful for my team and all of the brides, planners, photographers, and venues that allow this to be possible.

The primary reason I truly love what I do is the amazing women I get to work with. These beautiful women are intelligent and powerful, yet so gentle and compassionate. One of the indicators of this was our first bride of the year in Hawaii. It was January 13 around 8 am and I was on my way to stop and grab breakfast before heading over to start our day when my phone went off with a loud alarm. Confused, I looked down and saw a text saying “Nuclear Threat Imminent, Find Shelter Immediately.” At this moment, my heart sank and my life literally flashed before my eyes (I know it sounds cliche’ but it really does happen.) After I came to terms with the fact this will probably be the last day of my life, I decided I may as well go to work and die doing what I love. I headed over to the hotel to meet the bride and I was so thankful to find my team still came despite the fact we may not be going home. When we got up to the room, the bride was calm and happy despite what is going on, which I really admired. A few minutes later, the government sent notice it was a false alarm and we continued on with our day. The rest of the time we were with the bride, she was as calm and elated about her wedding day as if we didn’t just get notified of a nuclear bomb. The day ended up being a perfect Hawaii day and they ended up having a beautiful wedding day. This will definitely be one I’ll remember, not just because of the bomb threat, but because it was also one of the most amazing group of women we worked with. They definitely knew how to keep things fun. Photography by Keoni Michael

Throughout the year we’ve been featured in Style Me Pretty twice, Pacific Weddings, and Trendy Bride for two of our beautiful brides and a bright and stylish bridal shoot we did with the most amazing vendors. Click each photo below to feature. (Photos by Indu Hyunh, Sylvie Gil, Trynh Phto)

The remainder of the year was filled with the most beautiful and kind brides of 2018. Each and every one of our brides were extremely sweet, easy-going, and were truly inspiring to work with as a makeup artist. I loved working with every single one of them on creating makeup and hair that reflected their personal style and who they are.

I can’t even begin to thank each and every person we were able to work with this year and to the Blush Stylists who create an unbelievable experience for our brides, I am so grateful and blessed to work alongside these amazing, talented women.

I know with a year like 2018, this year will be more positive, more inspiring, and our best year to date. Wishing all of you a successful and happy 2019!

FEATURED on Style Me Pretty and Pacific Weddings: Sophisticated Tropical Wedding

We’re always so humbled when our “friendors” consider us to be a part of their wedding day; they know how things work and how the chaos of weddings can be, and we are so honored when they respect our talent and expertise. It’s even more exciting when the bride is someone whose work we love and admire and we know because of her impeccable style, her wedding will be absolutely gorgeous.

Before I moved to the Bay Area, I did some thorough research of who’s who in the wedding market and Jenny’s work wooed me immediately. Her soft, romantic style of photography is what brides’ dreams are made of when they envision their wedding photos, so you can imagine how giddy I was that she had our team be a part of her wedding day.

Jenny is a perfect reflection of a Blush bride and when the photos by the amazing Trynh Photo came back I was blown away, yet expected how beautiful they were at the same time. We did a soft natural look for Jenny and a loosely swept chignon, which we adore and know she will still love when she looks at her photos in 20 years. Her classic bridal beauty paired with her sophisticated tropical style perfectly paired for a stunning destination wedding. So much so, Pacific Weddings, the authority in luxury destination weddings featured Jenny’s wedding on their blog. With a top tier team of vendors, we knew her wedding would be featured on a luxury destination blog at some point.

As always, the Hawaii team did a beautiful job with Lead Stylists Alex and Mary creating Jenny’s signature style. You can see more on the Style Me Pretty blog and Pacific Weddings blog

FEATURED on Style Me Pretty: Classic, Vineyard Napa Wedding

We're thrilled to have C+B's gorgeously elegant wedding featured on Style Me Pretty. This was our first official wedding in California and we were so honored to have been a part of this beautiful affair. This classically stylist couple had their wedding at the bride's family winery, which boasted a wine cave, wine library, and dining room in the cave for family events. The home was nestled up against the foothills of the mountain and looked out to the family vineyards and all of Napa valley.

The bride was the epitome of a classic, elegant bride with soft, natural makeup and a simple, ponytail. Her overall beauty look paired with her beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown was the perfect reflection of her sophisticatedly understated style.

One product that we love to use for our clients is airbrush makeup. From sheer to full coverage, airbrush foundation allows us to customize the coverage to suit our clients' preference while offering a lightweight feel, skin like finish, and long-wearing durability, which is needed for a long day of like a wedding. For these reasons, this amenity is included in our Bridal Experience.

The team of vendors for this wedding was a star studded one, which included some of Napa's top luxury wedding vendors. We were so grateful to be a part of this beautiful and elegant affair. Head over to Style Me Pretty to see the feature and leave us some love.

Sophisticated, Stylish, Modern, Four Seasons Wedding

As a makeup and hair stylists, we work to create a signature style that the modern bride will love, one that is fresh and enhances their natural beauty, but also is classic and will look beautiful in 10 or 20 years. While we create a style for them according to their preference and style, one thing we know is that our brides are incredibly sophisticated and stylish. Our bride Lindsey is a fun, stylish bride who we absolutely loved working with. Not only because she was gorgeous and extremely sweet, but also because she has an impeccable sense of style.

Lindsey had us create two different styles for her wedding; her first look for her beach elopement, and the second for their mountainside reception. One thing that worries every bride is whether their makeup and hair will hold throughout the day. Lindsey put our work to the test as she and her groom cooled off and jumped in the water and her makeup was 100% in tact. We created a bronzy, beauty look for Lindsey for her beach elopement. It was soft and relaxed; perfect for a day at the sandbar.

For her second look, we created a more refined makeup and hair look with a loose, romantic low chignon and a soft smokier eye focused makeup. Paired with her dress and bouquet the overall look was stylish, modern, elegant yet perfect for a mountainside reception,

Top Luxury Wedding Venues on Oahu: Loulu Palm Estate

Take a nice drive down to the North Shore and you'll find a hidden gem, Loulu Palm Estate. Tucked in the residential area of Haleiwa, is a quaint property that is the perfect venue for a intimate, Hawaiian beach wedding. When you first walk up to the property, you instantly understand it's name. The abundance of loulu palms gracing the property along with other native and local plants really give that feeling of visiting tutu's house and feeling like you are coming back to a place that is close to your heart. The main house maintains that traditional Hawaiian charm with wood furniture, local art, and Hawaiian patterned quilts and textiles.

The bride and groom suites are perfect for small to medium parties who want to relax while getting ready. The yard which is perfectly manicured is large enough to have a giant tent along with a dance floor to create that outdoor luau feeling. The best part of the property is the secluded beachfront that is the ideal spot for those gorgeous sunset photos. To have a strip of beach to yourself on the North Shore is very rare and it is the perfect spot to take that moment, just you and your new partner, to celebrate your marriage. Once you've soaked it all in, you can rejoin the rest of your party and dance the night away.

Loulu Palms has always been one of our favorite venues to work with, not just because it's a little piece of paradise to have weddings, but also because they make a difference in the Hawaiian community. Loulu Palm Estate is not just a wedding and event venue, they also do conservation work that benefits not only the environment but also the Hawaiian community and culture.  Every time a couple gets married at Loulu Palms, they plant two new loulu palms!  Loulu Palm also partners with local companies like Hawaiian Legacy Hardwood to revive the population of koa trees and native plants in the islands as well as Waialae Fishing Village to help in the efforts to build the number of Hawaiian fishing shacks on the north shore.  Just on the property in Haleiwa, there are about 400 palms on property and about 100 new palms are being planted each year.

Nicki and the team at Loulu Palms truly embody the aloha spirit and are more than happy to help you find your perfect option for your wedding day.  Wedding day options can be broken down by day and the hour so you can really personalize your venue option. If you want the authentic Hawaiian beach wedding with your closest family and friends while doing something great for the environment and community, Loulu Palm Estate is the perfect fit. Top Luxury Wedding Venues on Oahu: Dillingham Ranch

Nestled up against the Waianae mountain range in the small town of Waialua sits what I believe is one of the most unique venues Hawaii has to offer. Dillingham Ranch is that perfect piece of heaven for any bride who wants a rustic, ranch style wedding. Once you arrive, you drive down a long dirt road with lush fauna surrounding you. You may pass by a few horses just grazing and may see a peacock or two if you're lucky. At the end of the road is a beautiful ranch style estate set on the foothills of the Waianae mountains.

The horseshoe shaped building has everything you need as it is a combination of suites, a lodge, and a kitchen preparation area. The bride and groom suites are available on either side of the building with adjacent rooms throughout the building and every room is styled to give that "paniolo" or Hawaiian country cowboy feel.  A few of our favorite amenities are the outdoor shower and the jack and jill closet so you and your party can hang and organize all of your wardrobe for the big day. The two bride and groom suites are large enough where a party of 6-8 people can sit and lounge comfortably while you are getting primped and pampered.

The Bridal Suite is a large spacious room with views of the property.

Something that is a great amenity that few other venues have is a prep kitchen. With the reservation of the venue, the kitchen is available to your caterer to prep and store the food. With a complete kitchen, whether you prepare the food yourself or have it catered in, Dillingham helps you take care of that aspect of your wedding.

The industrial kitchen is available for use on the day of your event.

The lodge or communal area is a large room that is the perfect setting for an informal gathering with your guests. The rustic yet luxe textures and ambiance of the chairs, fireplace, and architecture give the venue a very special touch. The french doors of the lodge open up to a breathtaking view of the ranch's infamous row of palm trees and a beautiful view of the mountains. This is one backdrop that will make your wedding that much more special.
